“In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
Decisions, decisions, decisions! There are so many decisions we make on a daily basis.
Some decisions will have an immediate huge impact on our life, while the significance of other choices appears down the pike.
All of our decisions are important however, even if we don’t notice the influence in the short-term.
For instance, in Darren Hardy’s book The Compound Effect he explains how small daily choices can really add up over time.
Our choices today are either getting us closer to the life we desire, or they are keeping us stuck in the same exact situation we have always been in.
Think about exercising for instance. It takes daily small steps to build up our strength and stamina.
Not only that, but other choices such as what we eat or how much sleep we get influences our overall energy and physical well-being.
The point of this is not to make you feel overwhelmed with all the decisions and choices you make each day. The point is to help you realize that you have the choice to better your life on a daily basis, one decision at a time.
If we want to be a physically healthy person it requires that you make the proper daily choices. We can’t just occasionally work out when we feel up to it if we want serious results.
Results come from action and behavior!
So, if you desire to make change or create new opportunities, you have to explore your day to day decisions.
“We must make the choices that enable us to fulfill the deepest capacities of our real selves.” – Thomas Merton
You can’t just sit back, waiting and hoping that things will change. They won’t!
On the journey to living your dream it can feel like there are so many steps to take and a huge gap to fill, but all you have to do is take the next best step.
What is one thing you can do today to get you closer to your desires? Each day you have 86,400 seconds to use in any way you choose.
The small daily choices you make will add up over time to either bring you closer to your dreams, or to keep your dreams out of reach.
Before making an important decision, start asking yourself:
- “Will this choice enhance my life?”
- “Does this choice align with my values and priorities?”
- “Does this choice make me feel good?”
- “How will this choice affect me in the long-run?”
It’s not about doing everything at once. It is about making progress each day. It’s about being as efficient and effective as you can each day.
What can you do today to get you closer to your desires?
