Delicate

delicate handsWhen you have bipolar disorder, I like to think of you as delicate – not that you aren’t strong and such, just that, perhaps, you need to be handled kindly.

Recently I have separated from my Ex (6 years this July). It has been beyond hard. He was my rock. He was the calm to my tumultuous seas. He saw me through mania, depression, OCD tendencies – and yet, he stayed. He told me he never tired of me.

Now, he has.

You, YOU are delicate, believe me or not. You deserve gentle hands and gentle manners. You must try not to misbehave, but if the bipolar gets you, know that those who love you will forgive you.

I once ran down my street barefoot before plopping myself on a little neighborhood park, my partner just behind me. I can still feel that speed my legs ran. I can still smell that grass.

We are delicate, those of us with bipolar disorder, a single stressor can set us off into moods uncharted. Just know that I know how hard it is, how delicate it is.

But if anything I can say about the bipolar community, it is that we are resilient!

Be delicate, but find soft hands to hold you. That is my wish.
