I want to start off by saying thank you for sharing your experience. I am currently working on a presentation about mental illness and well-being in Fiji. I believe that all of the characteristics that you named above about Fijians and how they live can really benefit their overall mental health. I have been doing some research and there isn’t an abundance of mental illnesses there like there are in the “states” as you referred to above. I this that all of the things you observed of the Fijian life can help not only wellness overall but can help prevent or reduce mental illnesses. Thank you again for all the information!

    Bula Vinaka Dr. Brennan,
I am a 19 year old college student currently pursuing Psychology at the University of Guam. I have been reading your blogs since 2014 and I found it helpful and encouraging. Notice that i said Bula, this is because I am a Native Fijian. I would like to thank you for reminding me of what it means to be from the small island of Fiji. I aspire to reach the levels of success that you have reached and will continue to work hard for my family and my country. I couldn’t help but smile while reading your blog. I hope that you enjoyed your stay in Fiji.
