I, being a person with autism, think this is a really bad idea. First of all, no online life for a day is not the same as the difficulty communicating that autistics experience everday – including jumbled attempts at communicating. Secondly, this agency fails to see how social networking has opended windows of opportunity for autistic individuals. Rather than shutting down facebook and Twitter, communicate with an autistic person via these networks for a bit and get to know what it is like that way.

It’s a bit ironic that they’re asking people to stay OFF the internet for a day, when the world of the internet has opened up new windows of communication for many people who have difficulty dealing with people in ‘real life’ for various reasons.
