Thank you for this post. To the outside world, I appear strong. But alone, im depressed and hurting and don’t know where to start.

This is Amanda. I wrote the article, but since it’s not an active blog anymore, I can’t reply from my author account.

I just wanted to encourage you to hang in there. If you need help, your primary care provider might be able to help with medications or refer you to someone who provides counseling. When I first started therapy, I called the Psyc Division of the hospital my husband worked at. They had outpatient counseling. If you are a member of a faith community, they might be able to refer you as well.

Finally, sometimes it’s just nice to talk to a friend about it in addition to therapy. That way we don’t feel invisible. Trust me, so many of us struggle. One benefit of writing about these issues is that people in my own life open up about their own struggles. Trust me, so many people are in your shoes.

But there is so much hope. They have excellent therapies and medications out there. There are proven treatments. The dark cloud can go away.

Maybe your first step could just be to schedule a visit with your physician. It can be scary, but they deal with it all the time. And they don’t ask all that many questions.

I’m praying for you. You will come through this! If I can, anyone can!!
