    My advice to beginners is to realize that we all meditate sometimes. A moment of quiet contemplation in nature is a form of meditation. The concentration of an artist or athlete can be meditative. Even the experience of intense pain, which blocks out awareness of all else, has something akin to meditation. The practice of meditation means deliberately expanding this natural activity so that it occupies more of our mental and temporal space. It’s not learning something completely foreign, it’s simply improving the balance of power between the verbal analyzer and the nonverbal experiencer within us all.
