I won’t do this often, but today I do have to write and wish everyone a happy Global Day of Hope and ask you to check out our depression branding work and think about signing our petition. I run a nonprofit for depression called iFred — the International Foundation for Research and Education on Depression, and today is marking the first ever day in the first ever month for the Global Month of Hope for depression.
Our rebranding objectives:
Global Color: yellow
Global symbol: sunflower
Global Month for Hope: April
Why are we doing this? My experience is in international branding and marketing, and when I initially went to find information about depression online it made me, well, depressed! I couldn’t imagine how people would want to learn about it / donate to the cause if it was all so blah. After much research, I started to understand why nobody talked about depression, few wanted to get help, and funds were scarce.
So I’ve traveled the world presenting on a Global Brand, and we have come to the color yellow, the sunflower, and April as the Global Month of Hope. We are going to plant fields of hope, and shine yellow lights. We are starting a petition to show the strength in numbers behind mental health.
Why yellow? Yellow is a color associated with joy, happiness, and hope. Those are the feelings we have when depression is successfully treated. I’ve written a comprehensive presentation if you want to understand it in greater detail — but I hope you join us in celebrating the Global Month of Hope this April!
Please sign our petition to show the worldwide support of rebranding this disease.
