Thanks for publishing this! I recently found out this information- I was previously diagnosed with bipolar II, and recently diagnosed with coocurring ADHD. I have never had a successful response to any medication intervention for bipolar; however, since I have been treated with 15mg Adderal XR 1x a day (only on the days I work); with psychotherapy, I can manage my symptoms and have had AMAZING success! My 19 y/o son also has ADHD; but has been unmediated (his choice) for years, but recently began to show signs of a mood disorder (bipolar II symptoms). I took him to our doctor & that’s when we found out that untreated ADHD can sometimes develop into bipolar disorder. He is doing much better & so am I – Thanks again for sharing this information!

Thanks for sharing your story, Eve. Really glad to hear that you and your son have both found treatment that works! One of the interesting things about having ADHD + another disorder is that sometimes it seems that one has to treat the ADHD before seeing significant improvement with the other disorder as well — all the more reason that it’s important to look for ADHD, even when another condition has already been diagnosed!
