ADHD, Decide

It’s Thursday evening. Just another Thursday evening. I’m writing this for tomorrow morning so if you’re reading this and it’s fresh, it’s actually Friday. But through the magical teleportation of the blogosphere I am taking you back to last night.

I am new to being identified as having ADHD “officially” and I’m not sure who’s struggling more with the embarrassment – my parents or me! The “moose on
the table” has always pooped when someone asks about my educational background (read as degrees)and occupation(read as laborer)…which for my parents had represented on my part: a lack of effort (which as they have always maintained that they had me tested and I “had the IQ to be whatever I wanted to be”), or was it was misguided priorities? lack of commitment? or maybe a lack of perseverance, perhaps a lack of organization, or did I lack discipline? What ever the case, I still hear all those descriptors and they give me a big old fuzzy warm nostalgic feeling…um…more like the sinking feeling you get on a roller coaster! Yet my mother, a teacher, had no clue – she missed the signs in her own daughter for 50+ years… and even today we just don’t talk about “it” …so we all internalize the knowledge that I have this “issue” and pretend that I’m someone else!
