You’re Beautiful

Yesterday, I was sitting in my office at the outpatient counseling center where I see clients, who range in age from adolescent to adult, when I began to noticeĀ a pattern.

A tough one for me… I know I am not beautiful and in fact, far from it. I also know that I don’t have Body Dysmorphic Disorder. (I am a middle-aged adult with 2 undergraduate degrees in social services.)
I have a significant weight issue and although my therapist has said that she feels it is related to long term sexual abuse I suffered in childhood, I tend to not believe it –for myself. For others, I believe it is a possibility. I am harder on myself than anyone else. With family, friends and even strangers, I am not judgemental however.
I am going through the process for bariatric surgery. It scares me but so did being told I am prediabetic which is what happened two days ago. I have always hated my body. I hope that changes soon…

    Yes shame about this…
The thing that tends to get us boys in the engine is probably the physical flaw you girls hate the most in yourself. So think about that, its included in the whole package thats you. Once, way way back I was asked by a palaeontologist girlfriend what was my favourite part of her, I thought for a moment, and said well I kinda really like your knees..What followed was an explosion of invective, implying that I was taking the piss out of her least fave physical aspect.
Luckily there were no intercostal clavicles to throw at me as well, but I’d gotten hooked on her fabby gait, and in those mini skirt days the way her bobbly knees led me such a merry dance…I was not forgiven…and retired hurt to write an angsty poem but eventually decided some ale might wash the pain away quicker…
A wise washerwoman then explained that I should learn to lie about these things, and I’ve been doing that ever since…but not as well as the mirrors in my flat…must be broken, gotta get the land lord to replace them with ones which keep my twinkles but not the wrinkles, The ash blonde perm can stay , I’m thinking fun ….
