Be honest: Are you more likely to flaunt your toned legs or complain about your huge butt? Show off your flat belly or gripe about your flat chest?
If you chose complain and gripe, you’re probably in the majority. (Of course, this is just my opinion; I haven’t conducted a super scientific survey or anything). Too often, people complain about the body parts they hate the most, instead of enjoying and finding confidence in the body parts they love.
Of course, not everyone focuses on what they believe are the negatives, and one such well-known person is singer and actress Christina Aguilera.
The 31-year-old The Voice coach has always been pretty comfortable with herself – whether she’s dealing with highs like the birth of her son, or lows like divorce; this comfort has been reflected in her relationship to her body, regardless of how her weight fluctuates. Aguilera recently told Lucky magazine that her new figure has given her some assets (sorry, but yes, pun intended) she didn’t have before – and she owns them:
Actually, the challenge I’ve always had is being too thin, so I love that now I have a booty, and obviously I love showing my cleavage. Hey, if you can work it and you can own it, that confidence is going to shine through.
Aguilera is right, and because confidence shines through just as easily as self-doubt, why not focus on what you love about yourself, rather than on what you think needs improvement?
For many people, this is easier said than done. Still, the first step can be taking the time to look at yourself – really look at yourself – and appreciate your body.
What do you see? What body part do you “work?” Own? Brag about it in the comments below!
