Partners in Wellness by Kate Thieda, MS, is a blog to provide information and support to relationship partners and spouses who are in a marriage with someone who has a mental illness, such as depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder. Coping with someone who has a serious mental illness can often times be trying, difficult, and stressful. This blog will deal with topics to help caregivers and partners learn to better communicate and improve their relationships with someone who has a mental health concern.

Kate Thieda, MS, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Master of Science in Counseling. She is an outpatient therapist at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where she works with clients with mood disorders, including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

  • Thank you so much for starting this blog. This is the exact resource I have been searching for for years. I can’t tell you how relieved I am to find information on maintaining a healthy relationship with someone who has a mental illness.

    • @Natasha: Thank you for the feedback! I hope you find the posts to be helpful, and please let me know if there are topics you would like to read more about.

  • Great blog! Will be signing up today. Just want to let you know that here in Australia we have developed a program called Partners in Depression – a six week education and support program for people who love, live with or care about someone with depression. It might be of interest to you to check out.

  • great resource! put a link on my practice website, hope that’s okay. thank you.

  • The right partner will keep you well.

  • Thanks for the blog. It showed me how much more I need to know about my partner and me. It may be too late to safe what left here, but at least now I do partly understand what happens with us and we may have chance to recover.
As I said today to a friend: “I felt like someone actually told her about us, what I do and how she reacts. Too bad I did all wrong and there was no one to show me what and how.”
