A Little Music–A Little Truth Transforms
“Among the reasons for the existence of music in virtually every culture [is] its ability to elicit and maintain human health and well-being,” says the book Principles and Practice of Stress Management.
Don’t ya just LOVE it when you come across some research/evidence or writing that highlights long-held beliefs or helps to support your personal growth/understanding of something (i.e. Your mind on music). Read at Your own discretion/Check out points from this CNN article: http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/15/health/brain-music-research/index.html?hpt=hp_c4
…Betcha couldn’t tell (from my previous posts w/music selections) that i actually LIKE/LOVE Italian music and the language…(you know i butcher French–good thing you cannot hear me “try” to karaoke to Bocelli in Italian -lol…i enJOY wide-variety of musical flavors/tastes). Back in the 90’s when Andrea Bocelli was first on the scene…remember driving around Europe w/Hubby, (Chato B. Stewart from Mental Health Humor), and hearing Con te Partiro on the radio for the first time…didn’t know any Italian…came in on the song mid-way, didn’t know the singer and my next “meaningful” European endeavor:…NOT leaving or saying good-bye to Europe without this music!!…We “introduced” friends to Bocelli back in the States…(Chato took me to see him live in Massachusetts…Amazing..barely/effortlessly opens his mouth and out flows this Incredible voice!)
We were in the paperwork process of relocating to Europe (i.e. Luxembourgh) at the time and Not planning on having kids when we unexpectedly found out we were expecting…i LOVE motherhood!!:)
However, honestly, motherhood was not an ambition…it was a surprise-gift…one i’m truly beyond words thankful for and humbled about. For me, before motherhood, i was kinda apathetic and indifferent to “certain” things/certain truths…or lacking sufficient knowledge to notice or care…i was unaware of the deep life lessons my future kids would help teach. My-before-kids-life consisted of study/work/volunteering…work, study, volunteering, work, work, work, study, study, study, volunteer, volunteer, volunteer…personal inner/spiritual growth and outer manifestations of that growth. A never-ending-insatiable-hunger-for-more- knowledge-more-“truth“…(Also, save your pennies to help others and travel/meet new mentors and learn/educate everyday!
(P.s. a couple fun/good reads You may like: A year in Provence et Toujours Provence by Peter Mayle.)
THANK YOU for Your patience: This post is an awkward attempt to awaken any Reader from “any” apathy and indifference…and to recognize how these are real threats/real obstacles and real enemies of compassion!
PLEASE fight against any smidgen of apathy and indifference to live a fully compassionate existence. Don’t be AFRAID to CARE. Don’t be AFRAID to FEEL. (Feelings: good, bad, negative or positive or neutral or other are temporary.) They come and go like the breath we take. They come and go in a heart beat. But without breath and without beat…do we live?! No. (We can exercise control over our emotions. We don’t have to be controlled by them.)
Transform your mind/heart/emotions…AWAKE/enJOY: this is one of my favorite Arias: Puccini’s Nessun Dorma…(FY: i don’t mind riddles…do mind beheading.) May be, that’s what we all do when we don’t take the time to “care” about the riddles of life or the riddles of each other…we behead ourselves….apathy and indifference hurt the mind/heart…present and future.
Aria: The term, which derives from the Greek and Latin ‘aer’ (atmosphere) first appeared in relation to music in the 14th century when it simply signified a manner or style of singing or playing. By the early sixteenth century it was in common use as meaning a simple setting of strophic poetry; melodic madrigals, free of complex polyphony, were known as madrigale arioso. ~Wikipedia
Nessun Dorma Italian: English Translation:
Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Nobody shall sleep! Nobody shall sleep!
Tu pure, o, Principessa, Even you, o Princess,
nella tua fredda stanza, in your cold room,
guardi le stelle watch the stars,
che tremano d’amore that tremble with love
e di speranza. and with hope.
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me, But my secret is hidden within me,
il nome mio nessun saprà! my name no one shall know…
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò No!…No!…On your mouth I will tell it…
quando la luce splenderà! when the light shine!
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio And my kiss will dissolve the silence…
che ti fa mia! that makes you mine!
(Il nome suo nessun saprà!… (No one will know his name…
e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!) and we must, alas die.)
Dilegua, o notte! Vanish, o night!
Tramontate, stelle! Set, stars!
Tramontate, stelle! Set, stars!
All’alba vincerò! At dawn, I will win!
vincerò, vincerò! I will win! I will win!
O Ice Prince*–Did Bocelli & Puccini Wake You UP?! Did your blood melt or did it boil?!
(*for some clarity: using term “prince” as a composite-multi-level metaphor/symbol.)
AWAKE /Nobody shall sleep! Fight against Apathy and Indifference. We must take the offensive. Take a Stand for Compassion.
The Encyclopædia Britannica describes sleep as “a recurring state of inactivity, decrease of consciousness and decrease in responsiveness to events in the environment.” a “state of inactivity” or a ‘decrease of consciousness and responsiveness’ is not always the desirable/positive thing ….
“Do not love sleep, that you may not come to poverty.” Proverbs 20:13…not just talking “material” poverty talking also spiritual/compassion poverty.
“Another feature of sleep is dreaming. Dreams bring no lasting happiness, and in fact can even lead to disappointment when one awakens to stark reality. Isaiah 29:8 describes it like this: “Yes, it must occur just as when someone hungry dreams and here he is eating, and he actually awakes and his soul is empty.”
“Could it be that we are living in a “dream,” asleep to the reality of the changing world scene, perhaps spending too much time and money in pursuit of material interests? Even as a dreamer has no sense of time, have we also lost the sense of urgency of the times in which we are living?”
“Physical sleep is not primarily caused by external forces. Oh, things such as a warm room, lack of fresh air, or warm milk may contribute to sleepiness. But sleep is actually triggered by some inside mechanism that is not yet completely understood. Similarly, external forces can contribute to spiritual drowsiness.” ~Let’s not sleep on like the rest do
Current event: The police get 1 suspect off the street (in the Boston Bombing) and this (false and temporary) sense of security and safety compelling some to jubilation could ? blind a city/possibly nation: how safe and secure are we REALLY?! Some times, some people become indifferent or apathetic to the MANY positive(s) and/or negative(s) influence(s) surrounding their lives both directly and indirectly. Why?
“Is it ignorance or apathy? Hey, I don’t know and I don’t care.” ~Jimmy Buffet
“The simpleton turns a deaf ear and comes to grief, and the stupid are ruined by their own complacency.”—Prov. 1:32, The New English Bible.
(Did you know this past week, April 14-20, 2013, was National Library Week?…theme: Communities Matter. Should it take tragedy to bring a community together?!)
A few months back, read a NICE cultural article on the Causcus and wanted to write up a post on it…(the timing was off)..but it’s appropriate NOW…Please, let’s not make assumptions about an entire ethnicity/place based on the negative actions of 2 people who made very poor/negative/stupid choices.
“Imagine finding yourself in a predominantly mountainous region that is about the size of Spain. To your amazement, you discover dozens of different nations, each with its own language. Why, in some places, people living in neighboring villages cannot understand one another! The region has been described as “a mountain of tongues.”
“Straddling the Caucasus Mountains between the Black and Caspian seas, this region’s location is at a crowwroads of continents and civilizations, which has given it a long history and rich culture. Its people are known for their respect for older ones, their love of dance, and their warm hospitality.”
“Today more than 50 ethnic groups still call the Caucasus home. Each boasts its own customs and often its own characteric clothing, art and architecture.”
“Caucasian languages use a vareity of scripts. Both Armenian and Georgian have their own unique alphabet. Others employ a writing system based on Cyrillic letters of a modified Latin alphabet.”
“Northwest Caucasian languages have the most consonants of any languages in the world, but few vowels. According to one encyclopedia, those languages use consonants “made at almost every possible point in the mouth and throat.”
“Ubykh, a Caucasian language whose last native speaker died in 1992, is said to have had at least 80 different consonants and perhaps only 2 vowels. A legend tells of a Turkish sultan who sent a scholar to the Caucasus to learn Ubykh. Upon his return, to explain why he was unable to learn it, the scholar took a small bag of pebbles and poured them out onto the marble floor before the sultan. “Listen to these sounds,” the scholar said. “Foreigners can gain no greater understanding of Ubykh speech.” ~Article excerpt: The Caucasus A Mountain of Languages
The Devil?? & Darth Vader??…Come On?! (just hear me out…PLEASE there is a point: no joke.)
“Superstitious and ridiculous misconceptions about the Devil came to be accepted by many religious persons. Even today the Devil is traditionally conceived as a creature in a tight-fitting red uniform, having horns, a tail, and a pitchfork in his hand. Doubtless such ridiculous misconceptions are responsible, in part, for many persons’ denying the Devil’s existence.” ~Is there Really a Devil? (The Greek di·a’bo.los means “slanderer.” related to verb di.a.bal’o)
“The devil’s deepest wile,” wrote 19th-century poet Charles-Pierre Baudelaire, “is to persuade us that he does not exist.”
Read a while back: Who Really Rules the World? …may be these highlights will give You a different perspective to consider?…
“LIKELY you have never met any leaders of organized crime. Does that mean they do not exist? Criminal bosses are skilled at hiding their identity or even operating from behind prison bars. Yet, newspaper headlines about drug wars, prostitution rings, and human trafficking, to name a few, remind us of the corrupting influence and dire consequences of the activities and of the existence of such crime figures. By the mark they leave on human society, we know that criminal leaders exist.”
“The Bible, reveals that Satan is a real person who, like a powerful criminal kingpin, sees to it that his will is accomplished through “lying signs” and “unrighteous deception.”
“By concealing his identity, the Devil has actually raised doubts about the existence of God. If the Devil did not exist, would that not make God responsible for all evil? Is that not exactly what the Devil wants people to believe? Like a criminal boss, the Devil conceals his identity in order to achieve his objective.” ~Who Really Rules the World?
According to Biblical scholars: “He is no vague principle of evil residing in our flesh.” Rather the devil was an angel (a spirit life-form with different skill set than humans)…who let pride/ego/conceit/selfish desire motivate him to make poor choices and take actions thus becoming the devil as a consequence of those choices. (For example, in human terms…a thief is not born a thief. His chooses to steal thus, choosing to become a thief. A person is not born a bomber or murderer. By choice and action one becomes a bomber and/or murderer.)
Anakin Skywalker: Love won’t save you, Padme. Only my new powers can do that!
Padmé: But at what cost? You’re a good person, don’t do this!
Anakin Skywalker: I won’t lose you the way I lost my mother. I am becoming more
powerful than any Jedi has ever dreamed of, and I’m doing it for you. To protect you.
Padmé: Come away with me. Help me raise our child far away. Leave everything else behind while we still can!
No. Don’t you see? We don’t have to run away anymore! We no longer
have to hide our love for each other. I am more powerful than the
Chancellor, I… I can overthrow him! And together, you and I can rule
the galaxy! We can make things the way we want them to be!
I don’t believe what I’m hearing! Obi-Wan was right… you’ve
changed! You have turned to the dark side! You’re not Anakin anymore!
Anakin Skywalker: [with a growing angry look and voice] I don’t want to hear any more about Obi-Wan. The Jedi turned against me. Don’t you turn against me!
Padmé: [crying] Anakin, you’re breaking my heart! You’re going down a path I cannot follow!
Anakin Skywalker: Because of Obi-Wan?
Padmé: Because of what you’ve done… what you plan to do! Stop! Stop now… come back… I love you!
[Anakin looks beside Padme and sees Obi-Wan standing at the ship’s exit overhearing them]
Anakin Skywalker: [enraged and paranoid] Liar! You’re with him! You brought him here to kill me!
Padmé: So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause. ~Quotes for PadmA Amidala Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace on-line
Questions for Consideration:
- What am i becoming by my choice(s)?…darth vadar-like? devil-like? or god-like? positive? negative? cruel? compassionate?
- Am i taking the offensive against negative influences?
- Am i fighting the sleep-like state of inactivity: apathy? indifference?
- Am i thinking about all the consequences of my choices? positive? and negative before i act?
“Keep your senses, be watchful. Your adversary, the Devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking to devour [someone].” (1 Peter 5:8)
May the Force be with YOU:)…don’t choose the dark side/negative influences that enable/empower/encourage You to destory or hurt yourself or others or family! Take the Offensive: Stand against Apathy, Indifference, Hatred, Violence, Negative, Devil Influences.
Choose Compassion! Choose positive influences that help You create, build and sustain!:) Compassion is sustainable!
