This is fabulous, Maragarita! And thank you again for the shout out.
I love what you said here: “Thank your body for what it helps you do day in and day out.”
It’s easy to focus on my body as an ornament instead of looking at it as an instrument: as the vehicle for expressing my life in the world. Thoreau said it best: “We are all sculptors and painters, and our material is our own flesh and blood and bones.”

@ Karly, thank you so much! I love your website. It has a wealth of helpful and inspiring information!
I love Thoreau’s quote. Very wise words to live by!

Have a wonderful New Year!
This is such a great post. I’m definitely going to point my readers over here… it’s so easy to get caught up in disappointment and dissatisfaction with not “being where I want to be yet.” I’m definitely working on honoring my body for all the cool things it can do — running and box jumps and pushups and piano playing and dancing like an idiot — and being glad I have the capacity to work on new skills (Hello, pullups! I’m looking at you.)
Thank you for this whole blog, in general, and this post, specifically. It’s a must-read for me!
@ Melissa, thank you so much! I’m so happy this post resonated with you! We all need reminding. Unfortunately, we hear more about how to change and mold our bodies, then we do about how to celebrate and truly take care of them.
That’s awesome that you’re taking the time to realize the amazing things your body can do! I don’t even know what “box jumps” are but they sound pretty tough.
Thanks again! Can’t tell you how great it is to get such thoughtful, positive feedback!
