  • Margarita, one of the books I recommend is Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. It is so important for people with eating disorders to learn how to listen to their bodies.

  • @ Nutritioulicious, thanks! I’m adding this book to my must-read list. Once I read it, I’d like to contact the authors for an interview. I just read their 10 Principles (http://www.intuitiveeating.com/) and they’re awesome!

    And I absolutely agree. I think many of us, whether we have eating disorders or not, have forgotten how to listen to our bodies. Instead of learning how to listen, we’ve learned how to silence our hunger cues.

    And again, the ‘Stop Hating Your Body’ book blows my mind and how insightful it is. My copy has lots of dog-eared pages, highlighted segments, notes in the margins. I’m very passionate about this book. Can’t wait to see what you think of it!

    What specifically did you like about “Stop Hating Your Body”?

  • What I specifically liked? Where to start? I guess it can be summed up by something on page 264. “Stop condemning yourself, to question many popular ideas, and to start listening to your inner signals. These are the basic guidelines for all good caretaking.”

    I have had many a-ha moments. Many times where it felt like they got inside my head and heart and then put it on the page. That’s what it is: I’ve connected to this book with my heart. The authors also include true life thoughts/ feelings/ experiences from their workshop participants. I can relate so much to it all. This book also encourages you to do your own “homework” on yourself, which I’ve been doing in my journal.
    READ THIS BOOK FIRST!

    With regard to the interview, I can’t think of any questions or information that I’m interested in at this time. But if I think of any I’ll let you know!

  • @ Freja, I love your description about what touched you most – how the authors got in your head and heart – wonderfully put!

    I absolutely love books that create an a-ha moment, where you feel like the author has just described your situation, thoughts, feelings perfectly. It’s so nice knowing that you aren’t alone, that others have similar problems AND have been able to get past their body image issues.

    Thank you so much for sharing this! I’ve been asking loved ones for amazon gift cards for the holidays. :) Either way, I’ll be getting the book. And I think it’d be amazing to interview the authors in the future, too.

  • I love the book The Yoga of Eating by Charles Eisenstein. Despite what the title might lead you to think, this is NOT a book about a prescriptive Yogic diet- it’s a book about our relationship to food and eating and promotes trusting ourselves and relying on intuition with food. He speaks to how disconnected we are from the process of eating, and if we develop more awareness and mindfulness, we can find a more healthy and balanced relationship with our food.
