In honor of Thanksgiving and all things gratitude, here’s a post from several years ago on breathing in the beauty of life. I know Thanksgiving is technically over, but I hope the spirit of gratitude stays with you.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. And thank you so much for letting Weightless be part of your day.
I’ve talked before about the importance of being grateful for our bodies and what they do.
Being grateful for our bodies helps improve our body image. We see that we are more than arbitrary sizes or weights.
We see our bodies for what they truly are: amazing, beautiful and intricate vehicles of life. They carry us and give us breath.
Even if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope that today – and always – that you remember to be thankful for your body. That even in the pain, gratitude is still there. That even in the mundane, gratitude is still there, too.
This poem from Charles Reznikoff has become a favorite of mine, which illustrates this beautifully:
Not because of victories
but for the common sunshine,
the largess of the spring.
Not for victory
but for the day’s work done
as well as I was able;
not for a seat upon the dais
but at the common table.
A big thank-you to everyone who reads Weightless and takes the time to leave a comment or two. I love writing this blog so much, and I’m constantly grateful that you keep stopping by!
P.S., Check out this beautiful Thanksgiving prayer from Katie at Health For The Whole Self.
What are you thankful for today?
