Body Image Inspiration From “The Beauty Of Different”
Mondays can be rough for many of us, and this doesn’t create the ideal environment for building a better body image. To help you turn that around, every Monday features a tip, activity, inspiring quote or some other tidbit to help boost your body image – and kick-start the week on a positive note.

I’ve talked before about the beauty of being different, essentially a movement that blogger and photographer Karen Walrond started about embracing our quirks and opening our eyes to the beauty of those quirks.
About seeing the allure even in the least likely of places. In ourselves (like my roundish chicken pox scar on my head).
And in others (a loved one’s scar, quirky habit; the way they might talk, love, look or live).
A few weeks ago, I received a copy of Karen’s book, The Beauty of Different: Observations of a Confident Misfit, which perfectly shows that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, colors and stories.
Today, I wanted to pick out a few quotes from the book that aren’t just inspiring for creating a positive body image and embracing your own unique beauty, but also for living a fearless, fun and rich life.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book, quotes that I hope you find inspiring, as well:
“I don’t let people tell me about myself anymore. I’m much more focused on creating my own story than on letting other people create it for me.”
I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life – and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.”
~ Georgia O’Keefe
“There’s no one who I wish I was more like. I used to live my life wishing I was like other people, but then I realized that was just me comparing their ‘outsides,’ to my ‘insides,’ you know? When I could finally get past what everyone might be thinking about me, I realized that ultimately I could only live my life, and I just wanted to live in humility, in honesty and be true to myself. And if I did that, in the end, everything is going to be just fine.”
“Beauty appears when something is completely and absolutely and openly itself.”
~ Deena Metzger
And finally, some words on beauty from Karen:
Beauty is something we experience and feel on a soul level. It’s more than being pretty or aesthetically attractive – and it’s an intangible attribute that stirs something deep inside of us.
Each of us – because of all of our differences – possesses the power to touch another’s soul.
We are all beautiful.
What are some of your favorite quotes or sayings that help you build a positive body image and overall self-image? What quotes do you live by? Which quotes from above ring true for you?
