@ Dr. Bjorndal, thank you! So glad you enjoyed it! I like the question you asked yourself about money. That's wonderful that you overcame your own struggles and channeled that into helping others.

If you'd ever like to share your story about recovering from bulimia on Weightless, please let me know. I regularly feature Q&As with women who've recovered from eating disorders, emotional eating and other disordered eating:

By the way, I can't believe you're an ironwoman triathlete. That's incredible!

Hi! I am a colleague of Dr. Biali's and enjoyed reading your article. I met Susan when we were researching developing an organic baby formula in 1999 when she as a tired ER resident and I was a tired Head of Marketing at an Investment Managment firm. While we "shelved" our idea, we both made career changes. I became a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine specializing in Mental Health, sports Medicine and Women's health. My sole intention was to help those with mental health issues as I had personally recovered from depression, anxiety, bulimia and a few other issues in the mental realm. The one question I asked myself in order to make the big leap of faith: "If money didn't matter, what would you be doing?"....it hasn't been an easy journey to "swim against the current", but it has definitely been rewarding, life altering and life changing in such positive ways, to say the least.
Thank you for your post

@ Dr. Biali, thanks for stopping by and commenting! Your post really resonated with me. It's a great example of how being flexible still leads to success and exciting, wonderful paths. I think it's a good parallel to dieting and body image. Being restrictive about what you eat can do the opposite, sometimes leading to overeating and more obsessing. Being flexible with your food, however, usually prevents overeating.

To me, your post also speaks to self-acceptance and the importance of listening to yourself. Instead of getting caught up in not following some perfectly laid out plan and berating yourself when something didn't turn out, you listened to yourself and accepted yourself. And it lead to great success. A nice lesson!

Hello Margarita!
Thanks for this post, I found it fascinating to learn that finding your purpose can "officially" bring you improved health, happiness and relationships. I've certainly found that to be the case in my personal life and in the lives of others (I write about the link between an authentic, purpose-driven life and health and happiness quite extensively in my book, "Live a Life You Love"), but wasn't aware that there's actual scientific literature supporting this. How fabulous! I will have to look that up. Thanks for the quote and I look forward to reading more of your work.
All the best,
Susan Biali, MD
