Your story is an important one – a reminder that unfortunately, there are therapists in the “helping profession” who have not worked through their own issues in a way that’s potentially damaging to their clients. Be clear that it’s not your fault for choosing the wrong therapist and missing red flags in session. The therapy room was probably one of the last places you expected to have to be on guard, right?
I’m glad to hear you’re not dismissing therapy from here on out. There are many excellent, well trained, empathic therapists out there!
