New Year 7Happy New Year to you and yours!

(Or, if you prefer, Happy First Day of the Rest of Your Life)!

In either case, why not make it an inspiring one?

Start this New Year, and each day in it, with affirming thoughts and words that have amazing powers to refresh and literally restore balance in the neurochemistry of your brain and body, mind and heart!

This shouldn’t be surprising, considering that human beings are hardwired to have an intimate relationship with words. That’s right. You and language are an inseparable duo! Why not make this unalterable reality a heaven sent partnership?

You have the power to activate optimal feel-good states of mind and body — and in turn, this energy can provide unstoppable energy to make the most of each day or to meet any challenges along the way, one moment and day at a time.

For balance, you need two types of affirmations. On the one hand, ones that provide a calming sense of contentment with who you are, and what you have at present, and on the other hand, energize and inspire you to keep reaching for (the stars!) an ever better version of yourself and life!

Think of this inside-out way of living your life as “your job,” a key means of breaking unhealthy dependency on external sources of happiness, i.e., foods, drugs, persons, etc., and instead, connecting to inner sources of comfort and wellbeing through the use of your capacities for possibility-thinking, creativity and imagination, grounded in acceptance and appreciation for where you are at present — all of which rely on the thoughts you think … and the words you speak.

You have the power, now go for it.

Start by connecting to your body with your breath in the moment, taking slow, deep, long breaths. With each breath, smile and stand or sit up as straight and tall as possible, allowing yourself to feel the boosts of positive energy you receive from affirming words and sentences … that begin the words “I am,” such as the ones below.

I AM …

(1) … Hardwired to Yearn for and Create Happiness  .. and Other Fulfilling States of Mind and Body.

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

~ MAHATMA GANDHI

(2) … Abundantly Blessed In Every Way … All Is Well With My Soul, Wherever I Am at any Given Time.

“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”

~ HELEN KELLER

(3) … Capable of Handling Any Loss or Challenges in My Life With Grace and Dignity.

“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”

~ C.S. LEWIS

(4) … A Believer in the Creative Power of Love — An Unstoppable (Hardwired!) Drive of the Human Heart (Infinitely More Powerful Than Fear!) — to Realize Meaningful Relationships and an Ever Better World-Community for Ourselves and Our Children.

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

~ FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT, First Inaugural Address

(5) … A Life Shaping Being through the Power of What I Imagine (Thought- and Word-Inspired Emotion-Energy!) … Thus, I Set an Intention to Focus Mostly On What I Love, Appreciate, Yearn and Desire for Myself and Loved Ones.

“Only that day dawns to which we are awake.”

~ HENRY DAVID THOREAU

(6) … A Caring and Responsible Choice Maker … When It Comes to Protecting and Caring for My Mind, Body and Spirit.

“To keep the body in good health is a duty, for otherwise we shall not be able to trim the lamp of wisdom, and keep our mind strong and clear.”

~ BUDDHA

(7) … Aware of and Carefully Exercise the Power of Who I Yearn to Be and What I Want … As Creative Forces That Shape Me and What I Bring Into My Life.

“Men [Women] do not attract what they want, but what they are…The soul attracts that which it secretly harbors, that which it loves, and also that which it fears.”

~ JAMES ALLEN

(8) … A Seeker of Wisdom and Understanding of What Works and Doesn’t to Create Health and Happiness in Life and Relationships.

“Run my dear, from anything that may not strengthen your precious budding wings.”

~ HAFIZ

(9) … Aware That All of Life is A Miracle, and Choose to Live Knowing That Each of Us Is a Miracle-Making Being.

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

~ ALBERT EINSTEIN

(10) … Grateful for all the blessings in my life, past and present, and also for the challenges, and how they’ve grown me to be an ever better version of myself.

“Cherish your visions. Cherish your ideals. Cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all heavenly environment, of these, if you but remain true to them your world will at last be built.”

~ JAMES ALLEN

Affirmations like the ones above are always available, should you so desire at any moment, to take charge of the energies of your mind and body from within.

Use them often, as needed. Early morning, and right before bed are key times. Learn to apply them to problem areas of your life, for example, to break a dependency on certain foods or drinks (or other external ways of lowering stress/anxiety). Together, your breath and affirming words are powerful tools to directly calm and comfort your self, mind and body.

Additionally, use affirmations to refresh or counteract negative energy after watching emotion-laden TV shows, news, movies — and considering tuning out fear-mongering politicians and news. Disallow this negative energy from putting down roots in your mind. It’s helpful to remain aware of the fact that all markets know (from decades of research) that fear sells, so develop skills in identifying media and entertainment that is specifically designed to manipulate you emotionally to act, think, feel in ways that are in their interest — not yours!

Finally, speaking affirming words to yourself are a most effective way to nourish your key relationships. They can be a handy antidote, for example, to any negative messages, past or present, from loved ones and other persons in your life (often well intended!). What you say and how you respond to another person or situation always start inside with … what you think and tell yourself inside. When you consciously shift to a good-feeling thought, you’re also sending a signal to your subconscious mind that consciously aware you — and not others or your body’s survival-system — are in charge of how you feel about your self and life at any given time. In this way, you choose to disallow another’s negative words, judgements or opinions to affect you in ways that may otherwise drain the positive energy from your body.

Learn to treasure your energy, and protect your positive momentum.

If you do not already, develop a practice this year, one day at a time, of shifting to affirming thoughts and notice how their amazing power to more easily realize your goals, dreams and aspirations.
