News Flash: Cutting and Self-injury on the Rise

Cutting/Self-Injury is not just a “teenage girl’s” problem.  Men/ boys do it, too. It is no secret that I, like most of you, grew up tormented in one way or another.  For me, I was the outcast with severe “father issues.”

One of my mal-productive coping mechanisms was cutting, and it started early for me. This violent self-mutilation was my way out of my inner turmoil. I hid it from my family for years. I can remember the emotions that led up to the act, but I can never remember the pain.  To me, that pain felt better than what was going on in my head.

  1. Cutting and burning for me was a way to deal with the pain of being abused. I didn’t have any emotional support from anyone, I was so alone, so I found something that was always there and also expressed the disgust I had inside of me. I am currently working on stopping self injury with my super great therapist and I haven’t hurt myself in about two months. I feel healthier and more stable. I have a long road still ahead of me but I think there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel out of all the pain. Thanks for letting me tell my story.

  2. I really neeeded to find this info, I been cutting for 20 years and I just too have been able to stop…. thank God!
