Have you ever heard the expression “The writing is on the wall” or “the handwriting on the wall”?  No, it’s not some reference to Facebook!

This expression or idiom is a biblical (bible) reference found in the book of Daniel in the 5th chapter at the 25th verse (Daniel 5:25). Without getting into a Bible discussion or debate, let’s just agree with the Bible account that this cryptic message miraculously was inscribed on the plaster wall of Babylon’s King Belshazzar (sounds like: Bell-Shazz-Zar)…

MENE, MENE, TEKEL and PARSIN

You see, the King was partying HARD when a hand miraculously wrote on the wall; i.e the idiom “the writing is on the wall.”  Or, as your Bible says: “MENE, MENE, TEKEL and PARSIN.”

Belshazzar perplexed over the meaning of this inscription and no one could give the translation. That is when he ordered the Bible prophet Daniel to come to his party to translate its meaning. (No doubt, the king was well aware of Daniel’s translations of former king’s dreams years earlier).
