News Flash: Cutting and Self-injury on the Rise

Cutting/Self-Injury is not just a “teenage girl’s” problem.  Men/ boys do it, too. It is no secret that I, like most of you, grew up tormented in one way or another.  For me, I was the outcast with severe “father issues.”

One of my mal-productive coping mechanisms was cutting, and it started early for me. This violent self-mutilation was my way out of my inner turmoil. I hid it from my family for years. I can remember the emotions that led up to the act, but I can never remember the pain.  To me, that pain felt better than what was going on in my head.

I was not surprised to learn that “obesity is one of the most common physical health care problems among persons with severe and persistent mental illness.“  I’m fat. I’ve known that for a while.
