After a long period of hospitalization in 1992-93, Ed connected with a local drop-in center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he began his recovery. He helped to organize a Print Shop at the center and started advocating for members of the center. He became Executive Director of the Center in 2000. Mentalympians is a mental health community development initiative to raise awareness of mental health recovery, inspire hope, reduce self-stigma, foster recovery and also connect individuals who are interested in campaigning for mental health reform.
