The pen/pencil is mightier than the sword. In this case, it is mightier than Xanax!
That is the conclusion of Dr.Fred Sheftell, MD, from the New England Center for Headache in Stamford, CT. While this home cure was more for headaches, it also simultaneously may help reduce stress or anxiety.
Take your everyday #2 school pencil (the color does not matter) and place it evenly between your teeth as if it was a bone in a dog’s mouth. Here is the KEY, says Dr. Shefttell, “Put a pencil between your teeth but don’t bite.” Just hold it with your teeth…
“clench your jaw and teeth; this strains the muscle that connects your jaw to your temples and can trigger a tension headache…you automatically relax your jaw muscle to do this, which can prevent the pain.”
Okay I just did it and, well, I do feel something besides the pencil – I feel a bit calmer. But it could be because I know how it ought to make me feel. Next time I feel anxious and I have a pencil, I will have to test it out again.
I give this Home Cure 2
out of 5 stars.
Pencil: I’m Relevant again… Chewing me relieves stress and anxiety!
Digital Pen: Phooey, I’m Relevant! AND I never need sharpening or Ink!
Pen: Ya, but at least we don’t need batteries…
