I am envious of kids that are able to grow up with so much adventure without trauma. My mother protected me, maybe a bit too much, and still, other adults failed to do to protect me. Because of the traumatic events in my childhood, I never felt safe. I grew up with the sense that the world is a dangerous and horrible place to live in. It's like hell, in a way. I've had years of therapy to deal with my childhood traumas and got over them. But those have left their mark on me. Overprotection is not underrated or overrated. The circumstances are just a part of life. Of course, fast drivers are a problem. Having a yard to play in is a necessary part of having an adventure. We do need to protect our kids from the obvious dangers, but we also need to give them the freedom to have adventures for them to thrive.
