  • Christy, I LOVE your blog! I have been curious to know more about DBT and it’s great to have you explain it to us. Also, as an educator and parent (of now-grown kids), I completely agree with the strategies you presented today.

  • am struggling with 28 yr old son diagnosed finally with bpd……….he was raised in totally toxic family environment…..been living with me for last three years……..long story…..searching for help for him and family members in san francisco or los angeles area……he has drained me financially as well as emotionally……made a suicide attempt aug. 3rd not successful i am struggling any info appreciated……he (son) wants me to fix him!!?? I am wildly co dependent bn to support groups alanon etc. help

    • You can’t fix your son. It’s difficult with adult children. I suggest you seek therapy, yourself to help you determine how to respond to him in a way that is both caring and acknowledges your own limits. As I’m sure you know, co-dependency is not helpful to him in the long run, but it’s an extremely difficult cycle to get out of.
