The unspoken secret in most relationships is that nearly all have struggled at one time or another to make them work. Even the happiest couples sometimes encounter a bumpy road.
But couples with mental health concerns — like depression — have even greater challenges.
While a relationship blog is great to learn more how to improve your romantic relationship, it may not be of as much help if you or your partner struggle with depression. People with depression face their own special needs in a relationship, and all the standard relationship advice in the world may simply not work — or even make things worse.
That’s why it’s my pleasure today to introduce Couplehood: Dr. Shannon on Relationships with Shannon Kolakowski, Psy.D. Dr. Shannon is a psychologist, author and educator, and has a new book about to hit the shelves that focuses on just this topic — When Depression Hurts Your Relationship: How to Regain Intimacy and Reconnect With Your Partner When You’re Depressed.
This blog will focus on depression (primarily) and its impact on relationships. The focus of the blog is to frankly discuss the real issues that couples face when one or both partners have depression.
I’m looking forward to the blog on this important and too-often overlooked topic. Please give Dr. Shannon a warm Psych Central welcome!
