Notes and Neurons: In Search of the Common Chorus

A fun event mixing a panel discussion with music performances and cross-cultural demonstrations to illustrate “where music happens in the brain and how.” Panel features three cognitive neuroscientists (Levitin is also a former rock star; see other talks here and here) with musician McFerrin, discussing the nature of music and dance, emotional effects, and cultural relativity. Discussion begins at 00:09:50 after McFerrin’s first performance. Video is inconveniently broken into five parts, all at the link below.

Producer: World Science Festival Featuring: Jamshed Barucha, Daniel Levitin, Bobby McFerrin, Lawrence Parsons, John Schaefer, Amber Docters van Leeuwen, Naren Budhkar, Parag Chordia
