Great post digging down deeper into the ‘why’ of what we do and posing interesting questions to ponder as I, ah, sit here, alone, in the house, with my computer!
I find it particularly interesting that articles like this assume that people substitute electronic communication over in-person. There is no connection between the two; the truth is that options are generally limited to “staying in contact over facebook” versus “not staying in contact”. Another wonderful article playing on fears of the entire society becoming increasingly isolated, when the truth is that people are becoming increasingly connected to each other, in ways never before thought possible.
@ Michele – Yes, that’s the story of my life these days…I vow to actually make a phone call tomorrow. Baby steps, right? LOL
@ Travis – Eek. Did something I (or Joe Froemming) wrote strike a nerve with you. Or are you a super smart computer whiz in the final stages of developing the next big communication gadget?
I hope you read enough to realize that my post was not meant to be all encompassing (I can’t speak for Froemming’s article). As with any opinion piece, you can take what’s relevant to you and leave the rest. And if nothing in it is relevant to you, congratulations.
