POLL: Would You Read A Jennifer Hudson Memoir?

Monday, June 6th, 2011

The Oscar-, Golden Globe-, and Grammy-winning Jennifer Hudson’s hard work definitely has paid off in the past (as if that abbreviated list of awards wasn’t proof enough).

She’s one of the precious few American Idol finalists to see the inside of a recording studio after Idol, and released her second album – I Remember Me – just a few months ago. She starred in Dreamgirls with the likes of Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and Danny Glover back in 2006, and she’s signed on to portray Sister Rosemary in the big screen adaptation of The Three Stooges, due out in 2012.

Oh, and she’s also one of the most in-your-face Weight Watchers spokeswomen since I don’t know when, and that took hard work, too, as she lost a whopping 80 pounds – going from a size 16 to a size 6.

But, will the singer/actress/spokeswoman get to add “author” to her list of accolades any time soon?

Only if she agrees to cash in on her tragic past, apparently.

Does New Rihanna Video Encourage Dangerous Revenge Fantasy?

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

She’s harmlessly raised a few eyebrows since Chris Brown assaulted her back in 2009 (think handgun tattoos), but it seems R&B artist Rihanna might have crossed a line, this time.

BET and MTV began playing the music video for her new single, “Man Down,” this past Wednesday, and advocacy groups like the Parents Advocacy Council, Enough is Enough, and Industry Ears are asking Viacom to pull the video from airwaves.

Why?

According to Rolling Stone, the video depicts Rihanna “gunning down a man in cold blood as payback for an implied sexual assault” (you can’t blame the critics for interpreting such a scene).

Rihanna, on the other hand, says that both the video and the song are about “a woman struggling with guilt over accidentally murdering a man [and] is meant to encourage female empowerment” (which doesn’t even make sense).

Chaz Bono Wants To Talk Gender Identity With Brad, Angelina

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Chaz Bono recently spoke with E! News about his parents Cher and Sonny Bono, his fiancee Jennifer Elia, his wariness regarding today’s options for genital reassignment surgery, and Shiloh, the first biological child of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Specifically, his willingness to talk with Brad and Angelina about gender identity.

Although E! News leads us to believe Bono would never make any assumptions about Shiloh (I say “leads us to believe” because there are no direct quotes about that from Bono himself), Bono does say he’s willing to talk with Pitt and Jolie.

I would love to talk to them at some point to at least let them know we have this resource for them if they ever need it.

Bono is currently volunteering his time with a support group that helps children with gender identity issues and their family members, and I think that’s great. I really, really do.

But, I can’t figure out how I feel about the Shiloh issue.
