The Royal Wedding (I don’t really know if that should be capitalized; it just felt right) between Prince William and Catherine Middleton takes place in exactly one week.
I know, I know, that doesn’t leave us with much time to pick out a suitable piece of silver-gilt wedding plate.
Panic!
However, if you haven’t completed your wedding shopping yet, you’re in luck: The Royal Couple (again: caps? no caps? British Monarchy Makes Me Nervous) has set up a charitable gift fund to help celebrate the union.
The Prince William & Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund offers would-be gift-givers the opportunity to donate to a variety of charities they support.
The selected charities are designed to provide assistance and support by a variety of means – whether it’s helping people facing illness, anxiety, or home care needs, or supporting sports and the arts as life-changing tools – each person who donates can choose to give to one charity, or a combination of or all charities.
Requesting donations to a particular charity in lieu of wedding or birthday gifts (or, in some cases, funeral flowers) isn’t a new concept – regardless of social stature. Still, you have to hand it to Prince William and Kate Middleton. They’ve picked out a number of worthy charities that can provide serious help and support to those in need.
