Celebrity Psychings

LAS VEGAS - AUGUST 17: Rapper and actor Tip 'T.I.' Harris appears at the after party for a screening of the movie 'Takers' at Lagasse's Stadium at The Palazzo August 17, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The film opens nationwide in the United States on August 27. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Last week was a pretty big week for rapper T.I. Not only did the Grammy Award winner work on filming a video and help save a man’s life, but he also received an 11-month prison sentence for a drug-possession arrest which violated the probation he received as part of a plea agreement for past federal gun charges.

T.I., known as Clifford Harris, Jr. to the judicial system, was on his way to a video shoot last Wednesday when he heard a man was threatening to jump off 400 Colony Square, a 22-story building Midtown Atlanta building.

The building happens to be the home of radio station V-103, and after making a quick a phone call to radio personality Ryan Cameron, T.I. showed up at the scene, filmed a different kind of video pleading with the man to not commit suicide, then – when the man came down from the ledge – spent several minutes in the building’s lobby talking with him.

T.I. claims the incident was not a publicity stunt meant to lighten his then-upcoming probation revocation sentence (I’m surprised that was even a question?!), and the suicidal man’s mother confirmed the grave legitimacy of the situation during a radio interview with V-103:

I wish it was a publicity stunt, and that my son wasn’t hurting as bad as he is. Thank God for T.I.

After the dust settled and Friday rolled around, T.I. showed up for his probation revocation hearing and pleaded with U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell, Jr. for treatment and counseling for his drug addiction.

I want drugs out of my life. If I can get treatment and counseling I need, I can beat this.

Judge Pannell wasn’t having it, though, claiming T.I. had exhausted his second chances, and sentenced him to 11 months in prison.

At this time, T.I. has about a week to report to prison. While he’s there, I sincerely hope he receives some sort of substance abuse counseling – and continues treatment after his release.
