A new, entirely unauthorized Lady Gaga biography hit shelves last month, and although the book makes some pretty serious claims, the topic gaining most buzz is the eating disorder and hospitalization claims made by David Ciemny, her former tour manager.
Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga, written by New York Post veteran reporter Maureen Callahan with the help of 50 or so interviews with Gaga’s current and former friends, employees, and industry execs, covers everything from Gaga’s love life to her alleged eating disorder to her insecurities – and, well, pretty much anything else you can think of.
Still, it’s the supposed eating disorder (and six related hospitalizations) former tour manager David Ciemny is claiming that’s gaining the most attention.
Oh, and this little quote:
When I say she was sick, I mean physically and mentally.
Lady Gaga’s current choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, has since spoken with UsMagazine.com and denied the claims:
I just want to say it’s all foolishness. Why would anyone say that? Clearly you have nothing to do with these dynamics, creatively or really with the people that are working so hard. She doesn’t have an eating disorder, and whoever is saying that is an asshole. Quote me! We are fighting for our dreams. There’s no hocus pocus there. The guy saying it has absolutely nothing to do with Lady Gaga.
(Coincidentally, Gibson also said Gaga was a “stickler for maintaining a healthy routine” back in August.)
I held off on posting about this to see if Lady Gaga was going to release some sort of official statement about this book and its claims (especially given her “It’s all about starvation!” comment a while back), but she hasn’t yet (to my knowledge); I’ve perused her official website and the pop star seems to be too busy with advocating for a variety of causes (such as the attempt to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and one.org’s campaign to ensure no child is born with HIV by 2015).
Hmm… Seems like Gaga could be taking a page from Kate Hudson’s book.
Still, until Lady Gaga officially responds to or announces anything, it’s all speculation; speculation that the people involved with this book are probably making a fortune off of, unfortunately, but speculation nonetheless.
Any Gaga fans planning on buying the book? Or, who’ve already read it?
