3rd Annual Avant Garde Fashion Show & "Shark City" After Party

80s teen heartthrob Corey Haim (Lucas, The Lost Boys) was pronounced dead early this morning at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California.

Although officials haven’t yet released details about his cause of death (it’s been reported he was experiencing flu-like symptoms and was taking over-the-counter medication), Police Sgt. William Mann isn’t ruling out an overdose:

“He could have succumbed to whatever (illness) he had or it could have been drugs. Who knows?” Mann said. “He has had a drug problem in the past.”

During his life, Haim was quite open about his substance abuse problem, discussing the havoc it wreaked on both his career and personal life during interviews and his two-year stretch on the A&E reality show The Two Coreys (the other Corey being Haim’s best friend and fellow actor Corey Feldman), but as recently as mid-February, Haim told TMZ, regarding rehab and sobriety, that he’d been “good for a while man” and went on to discuss his current and upcoming projects (The Science of Cool with Mischa Barton due out later this year, and The Dead Sea, which is currently filming).

The Los Angeles Times reports that if Haim’s death does turn out to be drug-related, “it would be the third drug-related death of a thirtysomething celebrity since summer, following those of Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein and actress Brittany Murphy.”
