Bipolar Beat

participating in bipolar researchEver wonder how to participate in one of the many bipolar research studies you often read or hear about? Well, it’s about to become a whole lot easier to find out about these studies.

The University of Michigan Depression Center and the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance have announced a partnership to create an information clearinghouse that will help connect individuals who have mood disorders to research opportunities.

The Clearinghouse will feature web-based resources and a toll-free hotline to connect volunteers with research opportunities at the University of Michigan and, in the future, at other research institutions.

“Some studies only receive one third of the desired participants. The more research participants we have, the better the chance for major breakthroughs in understanding and treatment.”

– Patricia Deldin, Ph.D., an associate director of the Depression Center, professor in the Department of Psychology and associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at U-M.

Developers hope to launch the Clearinghouse to the general public in mid to late 2011. To learn more, check out the press release “Clearinghouse will connect mood disorder researchers, volunteers.”
