I’m feeling a little lifted. Brighter than usual.

I decide it’s a really good idea to go to the drug store and stock up on items that I need. I start a list in my mind, and it’s quite long.

  1. Hi Kat,
This really touched a chord with me. So, the way I handle my urges to overspend, which often happen in drug stores and grocery stores, is to never use a credit card and always pay cash for my purchases.

There’s something about having a hypomanic personality that allows you to delude yourself into thinking you “need” things you don’t really need, or to “buy things,” with money you really don’t have or need for other more important things. Like a mortgage payment or rent.

Cash only is a really good way to handle the urges. Or a debit card. Years ago, someone counselled me to cut up the credit cards and although it took me a long time to do it, now that I have, and I don’t buy online either, I’m much happier and more flush.

And you know what. I’m really getting used to not spending and realizing that I don’t need any more stuff. I already have more than I use.

Good post. Really hit me hard.

    Thanks,
    sln

    • Sandy, I’m so glad you got something out of this article. Great point that using cash is a great way to help this overspending. I don’t use cash enough and I should.

Thanks for reading and come back soon!

  2. This post really hit me. In my moments of mania, buying several decent priced items over and over only makes sense. I’m saving money, right? All the perfumes, polishes, lipsticks, glosses, lotions, etc. that are currently collecting dust on my hallway shelf. I know the feeling of guilt that follows after, too. Not shopaholic, either….this can go to other choices, too….but this is something I’m always struggling with. Thanks for shredding some light.

    • Shedding.

      • Loved your comment about things collecting on the shelves. I know how you feel. You should see my bathroom! Paloma thanks so much for commenting and please come back. Thanks again!
