I’ve been busy blogging here at Psych Central for a while now, but that’s not all the work on ADHD I do.
Since my diagnosis four years ago, I’ve been writing for magazines, creating radio documentaries, writing book reviews, and writing, performing and producing standup comedy.
I wanted to share a sampling of some of my other work with you.
I especially hope you’ll listen to and enjoy my standup comedy clip. It was recorded live, on August 23, 2008, at The Downtown Bookstore, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, and produced at CBC Radio One, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Written, performed and produced by yours truly (and badly edited here at home for the upload for Laugh At Loud – sorry about the bad editing!).
Poor editing or not, I’m thrilled that my comedy piece has been added to the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Clips. It’s linked below under the heading, Standup Comedy.

Radio Documentary
Jagged Little Pill – written & performed by Zoë Kessler; produced by Lindsay Michael
I wrote this documentary a year and a half after my diagnosis. I was poor; unable to pay for my medication; struggling and trying, unsuccessfully, to make it without ADHD meds. This piece follows me through the emotions around deciding to take medication – or not. Here’s the blurb that accompanied the original piece, which was aired on CBC Radio’s program, OUTFRONT (which has since been discontinued).
Zoë Kessler often found herself faced with the question, “Why can’t you just be like everybody else?” Then, at age 47 came the answer. She was finally diagnosed with ADHD. Now she faces another question – will she change who she is if she takes one little pill? Can she afford to? Can she afford not to?

Creativity – a lifesaver
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little sampling.
Creativity has kept me sane(ish) my whole life. It’s through creativity that I’ve found my voice, worked through difficult feelings and deep challenges, and ultimately come to a better understanding of ADHD in general, and its specific impacts and affects on my own life, in particular. I’m enjoying the opportunity to share this journey with you, and hope you find your own creativity a comfort and a tool to help you carve out the life you want. And most especially – to laugh out loud, as often as possible!
