The grip of addiction is strong and hard to break. With appropriate care, support and treatment, however, people can overcome addiction.
But there are still a lot of myths and misconceptions about addiction treatment and recovery. People still don’t understand the process, or misunderstand how modern treatment works. Some people believe that a 12-step group is all you need, or is the only kind of addiction treatment that works for most.
Modern addiction treatment, however, has moved beyond 12-step programs (which still remain a helpful adjunct support for many people in recovery). We are beginning to understand the neurobiology behind addiction, and have decades’ worth of research into effective treatments that work.
That’s why I’m pleased to introduce Addiction and Wellness with Pax Prentiss. Pax is the CEO of a large addiction treatment center, and author of The Alcoholism & Addiction Cure. You can learn more about him here.
This blog will cover all of these topics and more, answering questions such as: How does modern addiction treatment work? What are the causes of addiction? How can I better cope with my recovery from addiction? How can friends and family help? How do we improve our wellness when we’re grappling with addiction? How can we continue making progress in our addiction recovery, and improve our mental health and happiness at the same time?
Please give Pax a warm Psych Central welcome!
